NEW DELHI: - DENGUE
Capital contending with Dengue fever is rising in number. It is caused
by viruses (DEN – 1, DEN – 2, DEN – 3, DEN - 4).
SYMPTOMS
Dengue fever symptoms appear within 5 to 6 days of being bitten by an
infected mosquito and last for 1 to 2 weeks:

Rash
appearing on arms or legs 3 to 4 days after fever begins
Precautions
- · Observe cough pattern by covering mouth with a handkerchief or tissue paper
- · During high fever, don’t skip meals. Take fluid diet and glucose supplements for strength
- · Personal hygiene like washing hands frequently is mandatory
- · Prevent dehydration by taking liquids like juices, coconut water, ORS and water.
- · Try and avoid going out during sunset as it is when mosquitoes are most active.
- · Dress so your skin is covered with clothing
- · Apply mosquito repellent containing DEET to bare skin and clothing
- · Empty containers and drain standing water around your home where mosquitoes can lay eggs
- · Cover all water tanks, barrel and storage container with tightly fitted covers
- · Abnormal bleeding and very low blood pressure (shock) may occur in server cases.
- · Avoid Aspirin during fever.
