Deloitte has built up a ‘Conversation
Platform’ for their employees’ to share the inspirational stories / actions
that had inspired their own or others life. To broaden the concept they have
made the forum public. I quite liked the conception, which will impact someone’s
life in a positive way.
Sitting at my desk, with a cup
of tea; my eyes gently sloping from my spectacles; and mind boggling which one
to share; where to start from?. After tremendous brainstorming came to a point,
to share three small yet impact instances of my life, a movie and a quote.
These instances #MadeAnImpact
on me for life long.

#MadeAnImpact “Priority
and Being Cautious”
When I was 12 – 13 years old, was very
casual towards my study. Being from a joint family, was always surrounded by
people, and was more into playing and roaming around. I still remember it was a
summer night, around 8 in the night, I went to see my younger cousin, who did
not visit us that day. Seeing me at his room’s door he greeted me and asked me
to sit, but suddenly there was a voice from the other corner of the room ‘you
need to study why asking her to sit’. I believe it was a bit of harsh way of
conversing on my aunt’s part, but that day I learnt to be cautious while conversing
and to priorities things in life based on the time and situation. Her saying #MadeAnImpact
on me in such a way that today I am conscious while expressing my
views and ensure to check before I visit someone; give importance to my
requirements and inculcating the same in my daughter as well.
Second #MadeAnImpact “Be
a reason of someone’s smile”
One day my colleague
and I went to a street eating joint near our office. The joint has no sitting
area, and have only ‘high tables’. We placed our order and was waiting for it,
meanwhile my colleague noticed a small girl eyeing at us and her distress look raised
his concerns for her. He tried asking the girl her name but there was no
response, then the shopkeeper informed us that she is deaf n dumb. We tried
sign language to communicate with her, and found out that she is hungry. My colleague
immediately placed the order for her. Smile on her face gave a quenched feeling.
Actuality is in today’s busy schedule people are becoming more of self-centric
then being concerns for others. This action#MadeAnImpact on
me that I have taken a pledge to be a reason for someone’s smile. As the saying
goes ‘Charity begins @ home’, so each day I try to do something / talk it out
for / with my helper:-).

A nuisance called workplace bullying

Outline:
Workplace bullying is a universal phenomenon and occurs due to fear not
respect. It is an unavoidable aspect, an outcome of one’s negativity though
sensitive and need to be tackle wisely. Purely an inception of human behavior
which cannot be enforce as it is by one’s own choice. It can come from the
superior in the form of increased workload, late sittings, passing information
top – down only, emancipate on others their aggressions, Peer/s gossiping about
other’s life, passing comments, demotivate people from improvising / working on
their weak area, laughing on others imperfection.
Ideology behind it is to make everyone think superior about the bully.
Bully are the people who are themselves victim of life i.e. Case1: Middle level
manager being informed by the management regarding his team’s performance and
the delivery output is not satisfactory – in return manager targeting the soft
spoken person among the team by offloading his aggressions.
Case2: An employee who is not academically qualified for the assigned
profile. But manages well by developing good networking with his peers and
manager. His nature from being understanding gets transformed to that of
bullying on the entry of a new entrant who is young and possess the skills as
per profile requirement.
Many such more scenarios can lead to workplace bullying.
Definition:
Universally no
prescribed formal definition of Workplace bullying has been defined. However
based on the understanding grasp from the environment it is one of the type of
personality trait which is negative in nature and being practice socially. A
trait which is an outcome of one’s own aggressions that tend to hurt people
around making them feel low about themselves.
Characterized by:
Normally it is repetitive in nature and there is no time duration for
its existence wherein the target lacks to confront the abuser.
Characterized Relationships:
Workplace bullying is not restricted to specific level, age, gender. It
occurs in the following forms:
- Superior – Subordinate:
- among co-peers:
- Employer – Customers
- Organizational System – Employee
It has different forms such as:
a. Groupism – Group of people victimizing one employee or a group of
people
b. Habitual – A person habituated to bully others and get away with it.
c. With Aggression – Superiors offload
their aggression on subordinates
d. Verbal - A peer / peers trying to take hold of other’s life by
interfering as in how to behave?
What to say?
e. Physical - Jokingly punching a
peer.
f. Virtual - Usually done to justify the reason for not doing the work
within the stipulated timeframe.
g. Systematic Procedures –
Organization assigning employees’ with unrealistic targets, justify the
performance of an employee.
h.Gossiping - Tittle – Tattle to malign someone’s image out of anger /
jealousy.
i. Kiss Up, Kick down - It is
a neologism where the middle level people are polite and nice to the management
and not with the lower level.
Who Moved Ur Cheese!!!
Life is a beautiful creation of God nevertheless remains same
always. Over the period of time life tends to take a turn which is bound
naturally and bring changes to one’s life. This is what I refer to as ‘Who
moved ur cheese’, as ‘U’ will be the first one to seek the ‘chance’, and make a
‘choice’ to get going with the ‘change’ in life.
Change
is something that comes with a package of ‘happiness’ & ‘sadness’ which is
intangible & unavoidable and it not only leave its mark on the person but
also to the person’s surrounding. It’s always better to change than regret.
Change to
forget the sadness and enjoy the happiness,
That’s when U moved Ur cheese.
Change to live in present and
erase the past,
That’s when U moved
Ur cheese.
Change to build new then being rebellious
on old,
That’s when U moved Ur
cheese.
Accept the ignorance & make place of
your own,
That’s when U moved Ur cheese.
