Recipe for Ashtami Puja – Poori_Semolina Ka Halwa_White Chick Peas

We bring you recipe for Kanjak puja. White chick peas cooked without onion & garlic.

Preparation time: 10mins

Cooking: 25 - 30 mins

Serves: 8 - 10

Ingredients - Halwa

Semolina                                    Two n half small bowl

Ghee                                            Two tspn

Raisins                                        Half small bowl

Green Cardamom                     6 pieces

Sugar                                          Two n half small bowl

Water                                         Seven n half small bowl

Method:

Soak the raisins for 10 mins in water, then drain the water and keep it aside. Boil the sugar and grounded cardamom in the water (as specified in the ingredient section), once the sugar gets mixed in the water add the soaked raisins and keep it sideways. Simultaneously heat the griddle on a high flame, then pour the ghee and let it set at low flame. Once the ghee melts add semolina and stir it on low flame till the color of semolina becomes pale golden and fragrant, then mix the sugar syrup prepared and let it boil at high flame till the mixture become thick.  Serve it with poori.

Ingredients – White Chick Peas

Chick Peas                                 Two n half Cup

Refined oil                                 Two tbspn

Tomatoes                                   Three medium size

Garam Masala powder            One tspn

Ginger                                        ½ inch piece

Grated Ginger                          ¼ tspn

Cumin seeds                           ¼ tspn

Salt                                             As per taste

Red Chilli Powder                  As per taste

Method:

Wash the white chick peas under the running water. Soak the white chick peas in a water with a ½ piece ginger for overnight. In the morning pressure cook it for 5 – 6 whistles and concurrently heat a griddle on high flame then add the oil and let it warm on high flame. Once the oil is heated add grated ginger, cumin seeds & red chilli powder. Add the grated tomatoes and saute it till it starts leaving the oil, after which add the white chick peas and the water [in which it has been boiled (exclude the ginger piece)] in parts and let it boil. You can add water as per your requirement of gravy, then add salt, garam masala powder and let it boil till the white chick peas become more soften.

Serve it with Poori, Halwa & Boondi Raita.

Tip for cooking:

  • Use really good non-stick pan/griddle so your cooking will automatically contain less fat.
  • In case you miss to soak the white chick peas at night then soak it in the boil water for two hours at max. And pressure cook it for 20-25 mins.
  • If you the white chick peas at 10.00 pm in the night and you use it in the morning around 8.30 am then 5-6 whistle is enough for it.
  • Use of grated ginger & cumin seeds is to avoid the smell of uncooked oil.
